Infiniti Looking to Bounce Back With Key Upcoming Products

Japanese automaker Nissan is adopting a new strategy to turn its fortunes around and achieve greater success in its various markets, starting with North America. This obviously includes its luxury brand, Infiniti.

The company desperately needs fresh blood and exciting new products, having discontinued the QX50 and QX55 last fall, leaving only two models: the QX60 and QX80. Canadian sales have plummeted and now stand 35% below Genesis’ total. The company’s image has also taken a big hit in the process.

It’s not the first time we’ve heard talk of an Infiniti relaunch, of course. Time will tell if this one is the real deal. What can we expect in the coming years? Well, before we go any further, you should know about the all-new 2027 QX65, a two-row midsize SUV based on the QX65 Monograph concept that was featured at the Montreal Auto Show in January.

Deliveries are scheduled to start in early summer. Adopting a bold stance and a sleek roofline reminiscent of the iconic FX, this vehicle follows the German trend of coupe-style SUVs that prioritize sporty looks over passenger and cargo space. Here’s an interesting little nugget: the new Sunfire Red body colour is flecked with real gold-plated glass.

Under the hood, the QX65 will initially be offered with a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine (268 horsepower, 286 lb-ft of torque) capable of towing up to 6,000 lbs. However, all indications suggest that Infiniti will return with a V6 to attract a much wider range of potential customers. The sooner the better.

Next Up: More SUVs… and a Sedan?

The key for Infiniti—just like everyone else, in fact—is to offer products that specifically meet customer needs. As you know, there are still no electrified models in the lineup. However, a new compact SUV with hybrid technology is expected to debut for the 2028 model year, based on the upcoming 2027 Nissan Rogue e-Power. We invite you to click on the link to learn more.

Also, Infiniti looks set to add body-on-frame SUVs derived from Nissan, which would be a first since the QX4 was sold from 1997 to 2003. More specifically, it appears that a luxurious counterpart to the future 2029 Nissan Xterra will be launched, much like the Lexus GX now complements the Toyota Land Cruiser.

And finally, if you thought Infiniti had given up on cars for good, think again. A new Skyline will be distributed in North America under Nissan’s luxury brand, and it could once again be called Q50. The idea is to bring back a sports sedan that’s truly designed to appeal to driving enthusiasts. In fact, a manual transmission will be offered—not just an automatic—as well as rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations. Excited yet?
