5 New Car Designs We Totally Love

Valentine’s Day may be over, but love is still in the air. As far as we’re concerned, the love of cars, that is. Inspired by some of the new models that made their debuts recently, we’ve come up with a list of five car designs we’re totally fond of and can’t help but marvel at.

You may disagree with our picks, of course. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as they say. In any case, feel free to let us know your favourite designs on our Facebook page.

2023 Lotus Emira

Visitors at the Montreal International Auto Show last month got to see it for the first time at an auto event in Canada. Arguably one of the most beautiful sports cars on the planet, the new Emira marks the final chapter in the history of conventionally powered Lotus sports cars. Slightly bigger than the Evora it replaces, yet remarkably lightweight in typical Lotus fashion, this model oozes with sex appeal and borrows various design elements from the Evija electric hypercar.

2023 Hyundai IONIQ 6

Here’s another one that was prominently featured at the Montreal International Auto Show—and even more stunning live than on any press photo. The IONIQ 6 is a sleek four-door coupe and a far cry from conventional sedans with an extremely aerodynamic silhouette, as evidenced by its drag coefficient of 0.21. A low nose, active air flaps at the front, wheel gap reducers and an elliptical wing-inspired spoiler with winglet all assist the IONIQ 6. There are some similarities with the IONIQ 5 crossover, though, like the so-called Parametric Pixel LED headlights and taillights or the flush-mounted door handles.

2023 Honda Civic Type R

The previous generation was admittedly too wild and juvenile from a design standpoint—as if it was trying too hard to impress. On the other hand, the new Civic Type R is much more mature and attractive without sacrificing its sporty character. The flared fenders, lower-body add-ons and sculpted bumpers all fit much better with the rest of the car. Granted, trademarks like the hood scoop and the huge rear wing are still part of the mix, but this is as elegant as a hardcore Civic can be. Oh, and those 19-inch black wheels on P265/30ZR19 low-profile tires are icing on the cake.

2024 Ferrari Purosangue

For the first time in 75 years, the sports car manufacturer based in Maranello has its own SUV—or a “four-door four-seater,” as Ferrari calls it. The name Purosangue, Italian for thoroughbred, is quite fitting for this model, which stands out from other crossovers with a mid-front-mounted engine. Development focused on making the bodywork, underbody and rear diffuser as aero-efficient as possible. Among the new solutions used by designers is a front bumper and wheelarch combination which generates an air curtain that aerodynamically seals the front wheels, preventing turbulent transverse air flows being generated.

2024 Cadillac Celestiq

This majestic new flagship sedan, which will retail north of $300,000 USD or more than $400,000 CAD, embodies Cadillac’s vision of luxury for the future. It shares many design cues with the Lyriq and actually looks like a stretched and flattened version of the crossover. Inspiration for Cadillac designers and engineers came from the legendary V-16 of the 1930s and the 1957 Eldorado Brougham. The breathtaking Celestiq rides on gigantic 23-inch wheels and the ultra-long wheelbase accommodates a large 111kWh battery.
