Ram 1500 Revolution: 5 Innovative Features on Ram’s EV Pickup Concept

The Ram 1500 Revolution electric pickup and other stunning concepts stole the show at CES 2023 in Las Vegas a few days ago. A production model based on the former is just months away and it will go on sale in Canada next year.

How does it stand out from the Ford F-150 Lightning, not to mention the upcoming Chevrolet Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV? The company didn’t share too many specs, but one thing’s for sure: this truck is absolutely loaded with smart technology and innovative features. Below are our five favourite.

Ram Track

Ram’s rail attachment/floor track system, called “Ram Track,” provides cabin flexibility for the seats and console as well as usable tie downs or other storage potential. It is also incorporated in the frunk as well as the bed (and bed extender) allowing for true flexibility from front to back.

Midgate With Jump Seats

The Ram 1500 Revolution’s powered midgate features mounted jump seats with a removable lower section for placement in the bed or even outside the vehicle. So, essentially, you can have three rows of seats in this truck. The midgate with powered glass also enables a pass-through—and into the frunk—that can fit objects up to 5.5 metres (18 feet) long with the tailgate closed.

Removable Console and Screen

The centre console has the ability to be removed for even more space. If desired, the centre armrest individually converts to a workstation surface. Also removable is the lower of the two 14.2-inch touchscreens, which can be used in different areas of the truck as a tablet. Incidentally, the upper screen can slide on the Ram rail attachment system.

Shadow Mode

One of the Ram 1500 Revolution’s coolest features, and also Ram CEO Mike Koval Jr.’s favourite of all, is called Shadow Mode. This voice-activated feature can be useful in situations where the driver is out of the truck and needs to move a short distance but doesn’t want to get back in, such as when picking up tools or equipment from a job site. The truck will follow the driver at a safe distance, using sensors and camera technology to navigate around obstacles.

Ram Charger

As a complement to the EV pickup concept, Ram also unveiled at CES a new inductive robot charger, called “Ram Charger,” that aims to make home charging as easy as possible. It detects the vehicle’s presence and its charging needs, and automatically moves into position and aligns itself under the vehicle. Smart-charge capability will allow charging during off-peak hours, resulting in both time and money savings.

How many of these innovations will stay on the future production model? We’ll know the answer later this year.
