All-New Blazer EV is a More Attractive Electric Chevy Crossover

It’s now widely assumed that the Chevrolet Bolt EV and Bolt EUV, hit by a massive battery recall in the past year, will no longer be around when GM’s next generation of electric vehicles take over.

At Chevrolet, two electric crossovers with more desirable attributes and reasonably affordable prices will join the lineup within 12-18 months including the Equinox EV and Blazer EV. The latter made its debut in Los Angeles on July 18, aiming to take on the Ford Mustang Mach-E, Kia EV6, Tesla Model Y and the like. It will roll off the line at the Ramos Arizpe, Mexico production facility, which also manufactures the regular Blazer, and go on sale starting next summer.

What’s so special about the 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV? Well, unlike the Bolt models but similar to the Cadillac LYRIQ and GMC Hummer EV, it is based on GM’s Ultium platform and boasts more sophisticated technology. While battery size is not specified at this point, the company did mention that maximum range will amount to an estimated 515 km with select models—approximately 100 km more than the Bolts. Standard DC public fast-charging capability of up to 190kW will enable owners to regain 125 km of range in just 10 minutes. Pretty good, right?

Next, you should know that four different trim levels will be available—1LT, 2LT, RS and Chevrolet’s first-ever electric SS performance model. Those who like power and speed will inevitably turn to the Blazer EV SS, whose unique WOW (Wide open Watts) mode enables up to 557 horsepower and up to 648 lb-ft. of torque, resulting in 0-96 km/h sprints in less than four seconds. Awesome.

All Blazer EV models will get standard heated seats and heated steering wheel, but none of them will feature push-button start. Instead, the vehicle will simply start when drivers depress the brake pedal after closing the door—so long as the key fob is around, of course. Meanwhile, the presence-based tailgate can open hands free when the key fob is recognized by the sensors at the rear of the SUV, so no need for one-foot standing acrobatics!

Inside, in Tesla fashion, a massive 17.7-inch touchscreen sits in the middle of the dashboard. Furthermore, GM’s Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving technology will be available, not to mention striking Adrenaline Red sueded microfiber seating on the SS. Cargo capacity remains unknown at this point, but it will easily top the Bolt EUV’s.

Chevrolet will provide more details about the 2024 Blazer EV in the next few months, but we already know how much it will cost. Prices range from $54,548-$83,548 including freight and PDI. Reservations are now open and demand is expected to be strong.
