5 Handy Vehicles You Should Consider for Moving Day

July 1 is approaching and you still don’t have a rental truck or hired moving men to help you out? You might want to ask your relatives, friends or colleagues if you can borrow one of their vehicles to assist you.

Here are five good examples you should consider…

Ford Maverick

Naturally, as the best-selling and hardest-working vehicle in Quebec, the Ford F-150 is the first name that comes to mind. However, if you’re a small driver and don’t like big trucks, a good alternative is the all-new Maverick with its versatile FLEXBED.

Access to the cargo bed is made easier by a load floor just 30 inches off the ground (with the tailgate opened) and low bed sides that allow even the fifth percentile female to easily drop or pick up stuff. The 4.5-foot bed can carry 1,500 pounds of payload, too, and is wide enough to support up to 18 sheets of 4’x8’ three-quarter-inch plywood by laying them flat over the wheelhouses and the tailgate lip in the halfway-open position.

Chevrolet Tahoe or Suburban

Chevy’s full-size SUVs were completely redesigned for 2021. Among other things, there’s now 66 percent more cargo room behind the third row in the Tahoe, and 19 percent more maximum cargo space behind the first row in the Suburban (over 4,000 litres!)—both best-in-class.

But wait, that’s not all. These two big rigs can tow heavy loads up to 8,400 pounds. So, if you can find a trailer to attach to the rear, you’ll be able to move a whole lot of furniture and gear all at once.

Toyota Sienna

Moving can be expensive, including the fuel bills. What if you had a vehicle that was super-spacious and practical yet highly efficient? Meet the Toyota Sienna. This Japanese minivan can haul you and seven of your helping buddies, or else up to 2,860 litres of cargo.

Having gone exclusively hybrid since the 2021 redesign, it also amazes at the pump with an official combined rating of 6.7 L/100 km. That number will obviously get a bit worse as you pack more stuff, but it’s the same thing with any other vehicle.

Subaru Outback Wilderness

Are you moving to the country or a remote location that’s relatively hard to access? The versatile Subaru Outback proves comfortable on and off the road, safe and surefooted at all times thanks to an excellent AWD system, and capable of tackling a number of obstacles in Wilderness trim.

The latter features a raised suspension, all-terrain tires, underbody skid plates and much more. And don’t worry about getting the interior dirty: the Wilderness model combines a more durable makeup that is easy to clean with all-weather soft-touch upholstery and exclusive all-weather rubber floor liners.

Honda CR-V

The CR-V is historically a safe bet. Dependable, spacious, practical and pleasant to drive, it has many things going for it. While a total redesign is coming for 2023, the current generation remains plenty attractive and convenient. Its large trunk will fit 1,065 litres of cargo, which doubles to 2,146 litres by folding the rear seats.

You’ll be hard-pressed to find another compact SUV that matches those numbers, especially one achieving a combined 8 L/100 km or better in normal conditions.
